School News and Updates for Parents

School Safety and Security

Ensuring the safety of our students has consistently been our top priority at IHSCA. Instituto has established its own internal safety and security team, overseeing all Instituto buildings; the impact of this transition has been notably positive. Our in-house safety team is not only well-equipped but also extensively trained to adeptly manage all emergency protocols. Collaborating closely with our dedicated staff and students, they work diligently to foster a welcoming atmosphere and maintain a secure learning environment for everyone.

As we stated in the parent meeting, any statement implying that IHSCA/IJLA or Instituto has failed to investigate or fix unsafe, hazardous, unhealthy, or dangerous conditions in the schools is false. We understand that the main concern on unsafe and dangerous conditions is with respect to two doors whose locks were not properly working.  Those particular locks have since been fixed.

Additionally, we are actively collaborating with the Chicago Police Department's CAPS (Community Alternative Policing Strategy) to engage with our local neighborhoods. This partnership aims to enhance community awareness regarding crime and gang presence, empowering us all to make informed decisions that contribute to the overall safety of our community. By fostering this collaborative approach, we believe in creating a shared responsibility for the well-being of our neighborhoods and promoting a safer environment for everyone.

DL Services

Letters regarding service interruptions have been sent to the homes of all our DL students and their families. These notifications specifically address families of students who receive special education services, letting them know that we are unable to provide these essential services. This unfortunate circumstance is a result of a shortage of certified and qualified staff. We understand the impact of this situation and assure you that we are actively working to address this staffing challenge and reinstate the necessary support services as soon as possible.

Staff Vacancies

Regrettably, the entire special education department at IHSCA voluntarily resigned just before the school year commenced. This unforeseen departure without adequate notice presented our school with a challenging situation. Despite this setback, we have remain committed to resolving the staffing gaps and ensuring the best possible learning environment for all students. We are delighted to share that we have successfully recruited new teachers to fill crucial roles across various areas, vital for our students' success. Staffing remains a priority and your understanding and support during this transitional period are immensely valued.

False Rumor of School Closing

We would like to address and dispel any false rumors circulating that suggest IHSCA will be closing its doors as a school. We want to reassure our community and families that these claims are entirely untrue. IHSCA holds a significant and enduring presence in our community, serving as a cornerstone in providing high-quality secondary education to our youth. We are dedicated to maintaining our active role in the community and are enthusiastic about the prospect of renewing our Charter contract for many years to come. IHSCA eagerly anticipates sharing our vision for the school's future, emphasizing our commitment to continued excellence in education and community engagement.

School and Union Negotiations Update

Our school remains steadfast in its commitment to engage in fair and constructive negotiations with the union. We are optimistic about reaching a mutually beneficial agreement on a contract that ensures fairness and justice for both our valued union staff and our students. We appreciate the ongoing efforts and dedication of all parties involved as we work towards a resolution that prioritizes the well-being of our staff and enhances the overall educational experience for our students.
